This past weekend hundreds of mainly college students who had marched from Georgetown University protested at the White House against the proposed 1,700 mile crude oil pipeline from the Alberta Tar Sands in Canada across the border to refineries near the Gulf Coast. Hundreds were arrested in an effort made to stop Obama from approving the permits needed to construct this means of facilitating more fossil fuel exploitation which would contribute enormously to sooner and more destructive climate change. Two articles describe the protests: Aljazeera America Hundreds Arrested in Keystone Pipeline Protest Outside the White House and a NY Times article, as published in the Seattle Times, includes pictures, a video and further information: Hundreds of pipeline protesters arrested outside White House.
